Although we can’t tell you where the original Alex Maguy Gallerie
is, we find it highly unlikely this is anything but a print.
Specifically, we believe it is a lithograph. We have seen other copies
of the lithograph show up in major art auction houses; each was signed
in crayon by Picasso. If this were an original pastel, it would be worth
around $50,000. But without better provenance or authentication, we
would not assume it is a genuine original. (By the way, this looks like a
crayon drawing, not an oil pastel.) Based on comparative data for other
Picasso lithographs of this title recently sold, and considering the
similarities and differences for the condition, size, artistic merit,
and age, we have valued the subject print as indicated.

“This is an abstract Portrait in Oil Pastel of brown and black signed”Picasso” on the bottom right. It has writing on it but I do not know
what it means. It is not a print. I have had it for a very long time and
it was giving to me by my late husband Connolly Lunsford, of Coral
Gables, Fla. It is very lovely and in very good condition. Only alittle
yellowed. It has been reframed some years ago. I hope it will be as
charished by you as it has been by me. The Date is 1962 and the size is

I have a question…I found some information on a similar piece that was
auctioned not so long ago and it was etching. However, this person
insists that this is not lithograph or any sort of print, but
oil/pastel. I know that an etching under the same title would auction
at $600-900. Is this enough provenance or where is the original? Is it
somewhere in the museum? Thanks.
